     Midland Funding LLC is a large, national debt buyer based in San Diego. Midland Credit Management (MCM) is the debt servicing arm of Midland Funding, and sends collection letters to consumers prior to Midland Funding LLC filing suit.
    Midland has uses several law firms in California to file its debt collection lawsuits Hunt & Henriques, Quall Cardot, and Mandarich Law Group.  Midland also uses it in-house legal department to file lawsuits. 
     Midland also recently acquired debt buyer Asset Acceptance, LLC and has taken all the "Asset" cases in-house. This has increased the caseload of its legal department and has made them even more amendable to settlement than usual.
     Why Midland uses one law firm or another or keeps the case in-house is unclear, but there is no noticeable effect on case outcomes. Midland will look to settle cases rather than try them, especially when opposed by an attorney who knows how to try a debt defense case. Their attorneys are simply too busy to try every case, so as trial approaches, they typically accept settlements terms which are favorable to our clients or simply dismiss the case.
